Opal - You Can Love Them

Yesterday I met the Australian Opal at the top of the Sydney jewelery building. He asked me what kind of jewelry I was making and I told him I was an opal ring expert.

Fifteen years ago he made special pieces for his private clients. In all that time he had never made a piece of opal and asked me how I came to do that and more importantly why.

I explained to her that each opal was different from the others and that was very important. If one of us as an artist is looking for rubies or sapphires for example to place a ring or ring we spend a lot of time looking at each stone under magnification to find the two or three stones we need they will be exactly the same color and durability. But that is not the case with opal.

Since every opal necklace is different we want the opposite. We want those individual qualities that make it different from any other stone. We look at that burst of bright color or that intricate pattern or that mass of different colors arranged in its own unique way.

I explained to him that since every opal is unique and comes in several varieties from different parts of Australia you have to develop specialized knowledge to really understand it. Then as a sculptor and sculptor of these stones I have gained knowledge of the years and years of the opal complexity in the work surrounding it.

Imagine if you had been sitting on a bench for a few years and you were staring at magnified lenses at a certain stone and every day you spent hours deciding how to get the best out of a few stones and then spend days. cutting yourself. Well you wouldn’t develop some technology with these stones would you? I asked him how many hours he spent staring at one citrine or one emerald?

Opal is a stone you can love. I asked her if she could date other species. Can they fall in love with amethyst or rubies? The answer was no as they are basically stones that all look the same and have no qualities that make you want to test them for hours on end.

That’s why I love working with opals and making opal jewelry. I love stone and have a real passion for making a piece of jewelry for this precious stone that I work with.

When I make a ruby ring a customer might give me a two-carat rubble and measure the stone at each location and set it aside to make a piece of gold. I don't look at the stone again and I don't even think about it. When I have finished working with the metal I then take the ruby and put it on the piece.

But when I make an opal ring all my focus is trying to get the best out of opal. The stone never goes out of place when I make the metal part. I keep picking it up and seeing where it will sit on the piece to make sure I have nothing to say. I keep whispering things like: "My God, this is going to look fun!" You would not do that if you did not like stones.

Opal and White Gold Perfect Match

I will write a little information about the shiny and white gold which are the jewels. If you are interested in buying any there is a link below that I use. Just click one of the ads if you would like to browse the site I use.

Opal

Opal is a mineraloid gel that is applied to low temperatures and can occur in cracks in almost any type of rock. It is mainly found in limonite, sandstone and basalt. The water content of opal can be as high as 20% in a variety of colors from white to orange and black. Dark-resistant red is the rarest and most expensive due to the magnitude of the growth reaching red and infrared waves; these are precious opal. Opal earring is Australia's national treasure. Opal is used in a variety of jewelry such as bracelets, earrings, pendants, cufflinks and bangles. The most common jewelry seen by opal and white gold together would be a ring.

white gold

Australian Opal Necklace is a mixture of gold and at least one white metal, usually nickel or palladium. Like yellow gold, purity of white gold is given to carats. White gold structures vary depending on the metal and the scales used. Nickel alloy is strong and durable so it is suitable for rings. High quality white gold is usually in 18 carats and is made of gold and palladium. Occasionally other metals such as copper, silver, and platinum are added to the weight and durability, though this often requires specialized goldsmiths.

opal and white gold are my favorite jewelry items. Opal is Australia's national gemstone so many Australian jewelers are opal experts.

What Is the Best Opal in the World?

"Potch" is what we call a useless opal. It is actually opal but has a dull and dull gray, white or unattractive color.

These days people often think that opal is found in Australia. Yes it is and there are two distinct types: black opal and white opal. Black opal comes from the Lightning Ridge region of NSW province and white opal comes from the Coober Pedy region in South Australia.

Australian black opal is known as the best quality gemstone opal in the world. You really need to think about that for a moment. Apparently there is a beautiful opal found only in Coober Pedy but in different parts of the world.

Opal is found in every corner of the globe and was known for many centuries before it was discovered in Australia. Louis Leakey, an anthropologist in Kenya, discovered opal that was used by early artisans 6,000 years ago.

Today opal deposits are still available in Hungary, Germany, Russia and other European countries as well as in North and South America and Africa.

Many African countries receive opal deposits. There is opal available on many continents and countries but deposits are low and opal quality is not good. In Australia the price is high and the quality is very good in the end.

I think what the experts say is that if you are looking for the best opal ring for gemstones you will probably be talking about black opal.

I saw a million-dollar black opal held in the palm of a miner's hand. But I also saw trucks full of useless opal.

Another thing I love about opal is that you do not have to be rich to have a good piece of opal jewelry. You can choose to buy a strong low quality opal and put it in a lovely place and it will still look good even though it may not have the amazing colors of the most expensive opal necklace. There will usually be an exciting character about it.

Alternatively, you can choose a doublet or triplet that often requires extra care as it is made of two or three pieces but will be much brighter and brighter at a less expensive price.

Sometimes you will find a potch with shiny opal stripes inside it and this will be expensive and will make opal jewelry more beautiful, especially opal pendants than opal earrings or rings for less money.

October Means Opals!

The month of October is full of wonderful things. Autumn is beginning to turn into a turning point. The end of the month brings with it many of the holidays that celebrate the customary season when spirits can return to earth for good or bad reasons — Halloween, Samhain, La Dia de los Muertos. It is also a very pleasant month to celebrate a birthday as harvest festivals and outdoor gatherings often try to enjoy the warm and sunny weather before things start to look good in the clouds and cold of autumn and winter. of the October birthstone. This month’s diversity is symbolized by its relation to the October opal birthstone as the mysterious gem that comes in a variety of colors and colors expressed in a milky but shiny sheen is also special.

Opal birthday gift ideas for opal for those born in October are always striking as opals have a lot to compare, and opal jewelry is usually the perfect accessory when trying to show off your personal style and class if you just want a special gift. about you! Opal earrings are always the first thing that comes to the minds of fashion-conscious people as the jewel itself with a regular round or oval shape is suitable for earrings — especially sticks of smaller, medium, or even larger sizes. They help to create a face frame in a way that adds a soft glow in addition to bright glitter and color-changing tints with different angles and light. Natural or at least simple circular shapes mean that opal rings are very fashionable.

An opal ring worn as a fashion accessory looks really good on a human finger or index finger as this gemstone can be large in size without taking out your wallet and saving your life completely at once. You should not look down on other pieces of opal jewelry anyway. Opal paints (whether in gold or silver chains) look great if you want a casual business look as it can jewelery your outfit without overdoing it. If you want something that can go on your wrist, opal rings are great especially if they are made like a series of opals.

OPALS IN HISTORY

It is said that Opal comes from the name “Opalus” which means “to see a change in color”. Onomacritus, an ancient Greek poet wrote “the delicate colour and tenderness of the opal jewelry reminded him of a loving and beautiful child".

Romans allegedly began popularizing Opals over two thousand years ago. Opal rings from this era are thought to have come from Slovakia. However, early Romans believed the source was India, an incorrect belief promoted by traders in order to protect their interests.

Gemstone Philosopher Gaius Plinius Secundus also known as Pliny the Elder wrote the first Natural History of the World in the first century AD. In this most important publication, he wrote that Opal was the most highly prized and valuable of all gemstones in the Empire. Pliny wrote that price was set “according to the decree generally set down and pronounced by our nice and costly dames”!

Pliny's admiration for opal is encapsulated in the following text - “For in them you shall see the living fire of ruby, the glorious purple of the amethyst, the sea-green of the emerald, all glittering together in an incredible mixture of light”. (Pliny 1st Century AD)

Roman General Mark Antony loved opal and wanted one for his lover Queen Cleopatra VII of Egypt (30-69BC) because the bright lights reminded him of nights spent with her. Pliny the elder wrote that Antony coveted an opal owned by Senator Nonius and banished the Senator after he refused to sell the almond sized stone, reputed to be worth 20,000 sesterces (hundreds of thousands of dollars today). The Senator preferred to be “turned out of house and home” than part with his Opal. The Senator escaped with his Opal leaving his family behind. According to some reports, the ring was discovered in the tomb of the “firm willed Senator” early in the twentieth century.

Opal bracelet has been used in the crowns of kings; the crown jewels of France included fine specimens of opal, and the crown of the Holy Roman Emperor contained an opal stone.

On Trend Necklaces for Spring

If you are looking for the trendy opal necklaces for the spring, a good place to start your search is with the different jewelry collections. You will discover what's new with the individual designers and you will discover some common themes - aka trends.

Gems en Vogue II

It's no surprise that gems are at the heart of this collection - beautiful pastels blended into one gorgeous dragonfly necklace and bright colors standing on their own. The multi-gemstone Dragonfly & Cultured Spice Pearl necklace is a mixture of gems and cultured pearls strung on a pearlescent lilac strand. The wings of the dragonfly pendant combine apatite stones, dark pink sapphires, rubies, iolites, tanzanites, amethysts and pink quartz. All gemstones are in claw and bead settings. The pendant is just under 2 inches long and just over 2 inches wide. The chain is strung with dyed multi-colored freshwater cultured pearls and measures 23 inches long. It secures with a lobster clasp.

For a bit of bright orange, check out the carnelian, garnet and orange sapphire necklace, hanging from a 20-inch sterling silver and 18K vermeil chain. At the center of the necklace is the pendant - a semi-round carved orange carnelian, a garnet and an orange sapphire, all in claw settings. This pendant hangs from a strand of round cut carnelian beads.

Gem Treasures

You will recognize this collection for its multi-strand necklaces made with hand-selected exotic gems. Start with your choice of a 24-inch rose or smoky quartz necklace, both set on sterling silver. It features various round faceted and oval fancy cut stones in your choice of rose quartz or smoky quartz. The rose is a soft baby pink color and the smoky quartz is a deep, rich brown. The three strands of quartz secure with a lobster claw clasp.

Want to reflect the colors of the sun? Try the Shades of Fire Opal necklace, strung on an 18-inch sterling silver chain.

The 165 round beads are arranged by the depth of their color. The total fire opal weight is approximately 52.64ct. It secures with a magnetic clasp.

Belita Brilliante

Love the look of platinum? You will love this collection's platinum-embraced 16 inch or 18 inch bezel set tennis necklace. It is one luscious row of sparkles that come from the simulated diamonds set in platinum-embraced sterling silver. The bezel setting offers a more contemporary look to this classic style. The necklace fastens with a box clasp with a safety catch.

For a simpler look, check out the platinum-embraced 24-inch station necklace. Again, made with platinum-embraced sterling silver, the necklace is a cable chain with six stations. At each station is a solitary round simulated diamond in a bezel setting. It fastens with a spring ring clasp.

Sweet Romance

This collection knows all about soft romantic looks that harken back to the 1930 and 1940s. Start with a Victorian-inspired Paris shadow box necklace that contains a nod to the famous Eiffel Tower. It measures 21 inches long plus a 4-inch drop. Even if you have never been to Paris, you will love the feelings of romance stirred up by this necklace. The textured gold tone chain features a pendant with an image of the Eiffel Tower and the word "Souvenir de Paris" in the background. On the front of the shadow box are flower sprigs with crystals and glass pearls. Atop the pendant is a small fleur-de-lis. It is rich with detail. Altogether, the necklace contains 60 different crystals in a bezel setting.

Another romantic necklace from Sweet Romance is the 22-inch Tudor-inspired intaglio necklace with a "reverse" cameo etched in one of several charms hanging from the necklace. You have a choice of a blue or smoky cameo. The other charms include a key and glass charms. They hang from a gloved hand charm that attaches to the 22-inch gold-tone necklace. This interesting necklace - a blend of Tudor and the Renaissance - will be a real conversation starter.

Far East Market

If you think of pearls when you hear the words "Far East," you are right on target. One of the best sellers in this collection is the pink freshwater cultured pearl necklace. The 18-inch strand includes 39 round 11mm to 12mm pink freshwater cultured pearls. It is secured by a fish hook clasp with a catch guard.

If you prefer something other than pearls, consider a 24-inch hematite and carved onyx "Year of the Dragon" necklace in honor of 2012. The dragon, a symbol of power, strength, protection and wisdom in Chinese culture, is painted in gold-toned enamel on each one of the 10 round black onyx beads. Interspersed between the onyx beads are 33 dark gray hematite beads. The beads are individually knotted. A magnetic clasp, made of sterling silver and plated with 18K yellow gold, secures the beads. This beautiful piece comes with its own jewelry pouch.

Jewellery Matching Tips

The colour of the skin, the length of the chain, the style of the opal jewelry, the number of wearable jewellery, the type of metal used, etc. will depend on the different categories.

The following tips guide you through the most appropriate gemstone colour palette.Your hairstyle is dark without solid silver or gold highlights, eye colour is brown, green, blue or dark black, skin tone is olive, cool or salo. Skin colour Silver is more beautiful than gold.

Then you are the majority of white Caucasians.

You can wear clean, neat, brightly colored clothing, especially lots of white in them. Your best is basic black and navy. Most semi-precious stones will fit you, but the following are ideal:Garnet, Amethyst, Sapphire, Moonstone, Opal Ring, Black onyx, Turquoise, Blue Topaz

Then a typical sunny autumn day colours are right for you - brown, green, burnt orange, teal, deep aubergine. Your best basics are olive green and brown. Your hair has golden or red tones, medium to dark eyes, your hair is black or medium black, your skin tone is golden or peachy, to look more beautiful in gold than silver. The following semi-precious stones are ideal for your colour:Peridot,Cornelia,Tiger Ey,Coral,Turquoise,Citrine (especially golden yellow to orange shade).Ambe,Smoky quartz,LabradoriteYour hair has golden or red tones, clear, light to medium eyes, your hair is black or medium black, your skin tone is golden or peachy, to look more beautiful in gold than silver. Then neutral tones are the best basics to highlight with your purple-blue, soft coral or turquoise. The following semi-precious stones are ideal for your colour: turquoise, smoky quartz, coral, labradorite, amethyst, aqua chalcedonyYour hair is light medium with cool tones, transparent skin on your cheeks and radiant with apples.Opal Ring is more beautiful than gold. Then all shades of pastel blue, pink and mauve are suitable for you and your basics are grey and a grey navy. The following semi-precious stones are ideal for your colour: blue chalcedony, moonstone, rose quartz, amethyst, blue topaz, fire opal. The contrast of a thumb, such as turquoise or lapis lazuli, is all black, coral or citrine dark brown, to distinguish jewellery from a simple understated outfit. Equally successful is a contrasting but toning colour such as peridot against dark green, blue topaz against navy.As part of the same rule, pick out a colour in a print and coordinate to that colour e.g. if you are wearing a multi-coloured pastel print pick out the pink, blue, aqua, lemon, lilac etc. and use a gemstone of that shade to match or tone in.Pearls are pretty universal and will add light to most outfitsIf you're pondering the length of chain you need to wear with a pendant the first thing to decide is what you will wear the pendant with.A small and elegant pendant would look better on a light, small chain but a larger, heavier design would suit a more significant chain and wearing less on a longer chain could look stunning.

Once you have made this decision you will only need a string long enough to go around your neck and end up at the point where you want to drop the pendant. If this helps you visualise the effect,However, thread the string through the bale and tie it to the desired length. Measure the length of the string and the chain length to buy it.Jewellery is a very personal matter and you need to feel comfortable wearing your choice. However, here are some guidelines to consider:The shape of the face and the style of hair will affect what is right for you.A pair of large opal earrings in the face of an elf will impress with its delicate facial features.Similarly, extra large earrings with short haircuts can look unbalanced.

Long hair can hide an intelligent earring so can be called for something more dramatic.

A long neck can carry a long chandelier or opal earrings but this style will emphasise a shorter neck. If you are not a swan, choose a small drop earring instead.Hair worn on the head increases height and lengthens the neck. This is an ideal opportunity to wear drop or dangly earrings and it is very sexy!Consider the neckwear you choose and keep the earrings in balance. A dramatic statement necklace requires discrete, minimalist earrings. If no necklace is worn then the earrings can take centre stage.Stud earrings are suitable for most face shapes and practical for everyday use.If you are wearing a statement necklace - something big and bold - keep earrings minimal and discreet. Otherwise the effect of the necklace will be lost and your head and shoulders are in danger of looking like an overdressed Christmas tree. Remember that jewellery is an accessory and it should not overwhelm you. After all it is you who wants to shine!Similarly, think carefully about your hands. Wearing many rings of the same type together can create a certain "look". However a special or statement requires space around the ring and does not require a mate. Avoid overly integrated looks. If you have matching necklaces, earrings, brooches, bracelets and rings, you do not have to wear them together.

How To Find Authentic, But Inexpensive Opal Jewelry

Opal jewelry or Opal Necklace as the British spell it, such as rings, pendants, necklaces make ideal fashion accessories for any occasion. Opals are found around the inland areas of Australia. Opals are a part of the cultural history of these regions. Many of the old opal mines are not producing anymore. Fields such as White Cliffs and Andamooka still have some coming out of the ground but not extensive. In recent times Lightning Ridge has also not produced like it used to. We are all waiting for a new field to be found.

Gold is the most common medium used to set opals in most parts of the world. There is a lot of experimentation with different metals and opals set in silver with rhodium coating (to prevent tarnishing) are gaining popularity by the day. The high price of gold is stimulating this trend because silver is much more economical.

Please note that the spelling of the word 'jewelry' varies between the USA and the UK, where it is spelt 'jewellery.' There is a lot of interesting information about the history of opals and ancient jewelry at this site. Please take a look at the blogs section to see what has been written, ask any questions and make some comments if you feel inclined.

Other articles in the Opal mine series have focused on how to tell if the opal itself is genuine so in this article we will take a look at the metal itself. Keep in mind that a Karat is a measure of the purity of gold. 24karat is pure gold. So each karat is one 24th. So 18 karat means the metal is 18 parts pure gold and 6 parts copper. You can work out the same percentages when referring to 9, 10, 12 or 14 karat gold.

You will need an eye glass to examine the small stamp usually on the inside of the shank of an opal ring, or somewhere else in the case of pendants, bracelets, and earrings.

· If the metal is stamped '925' it means that its sterling silver

· If its stamped 325 it means 9k gold, either white or yellow

· If the stamp is 585 it means 14k gold either white or yellow

· If the stamp is 750 it means 18k gold either white or yellow

Here are the full details of Gold and silver standards in carats and percentages of 1000

· 24 carat (999)

· 22 carat (916)

· 20 carat (833)

· 18 carat (750)

· 16 carat (625)

· 14 carat (585)

· 10 carat (417)

· 9 carat (375)

Opal Rings

Historically and in the fashion world, rings are by far the most popular form of jewelry and there is no exception to this in the opal industry. Design tastes vary from one person to the other and from one country to another. Some folks like intricate designs that feature the metal with the stone, and some prefer a very plain presentation that makes the opal stone itself stand out.

Opal Pendants are the next contender

It's easier to buy a pendant gift for someone than a ring because you don't have to worry about finger sizes.

Opal Necklaces are just variations of Pendants

They are often larger and more complex than pendants, often featuring many stones either strung along the necklace in the form of beads or hangers, or sometimes presented in clusters that hang much the same as a pendant. Opal necklaces and pendants are the most popular opal jewelry lines sold online for the purpose of gifts because unlike rings, they don't have to fit a particular finger.

Spotlight on October's Birthstone - Opal

What is the meaning of the Opal Necklace? Opal is the birthstone for October. Opals are beautiful and unique in that they can change their coloring. The word Opal comes from the Greek word "opallios" which means to see variations in color. There are many different types of opals. There are lots of opal varieties including fiery colored ones and lighter, more iridescent opals. You can find opal's that are colorless, white, yellow, orange, red, purple, blue, green, gray, brown, and black or multi-colored. However, the color is more visible when the opal is clear, or "crystal," rather than cloudy.

Caring for your opal is important. Opal is a living stone and should be taken care of. It is best to protect opals from extreme heat, temperature changes and household detergents that could damage the gem. It is probably better just to avoid wearing any opal jewelry while cleaning or performing household tasks. To clean an opal, just wipe it with a clean, soft dry cloth. In general, you do not want to place your opal jewelry in water. Opals can get dehydrated after being mined, with a tendency to craze, which means to crack or developing webbing. If the opal survives several months without crazing, it is to be expected to last. Some opals can even maintain their original state for centuries.

Where do most opal's come from? Australia is the major supplier of Opal's worldwide. In fact, close to 95 per cent of all Opals come from mines in Australia. The remaining five per cent come from Mexico and Brazil, and sometimes the United States.

What re opal gem's made of? Opals are composed of a mixture of silica and water. Basically, opals are a gel from silica, with varying percentages of water.

Opal's make a great gift! Because each opal can be very different, they are considered a rarity and can be a romantic gift. You could purchase a gift for someone who is born in October and incorporate the opal in the jewelry. Or if buying a romantic gift, you could get a piece of opal jewelry, such as a pendant necklace or opal gemstone bracelet. Take your time and choose the type of opal appearance you want. Since there are so many varieties, you can take your pick.

How To Find Authentic, But Inexpensive Opal Jewelry

Opal jewelry or Opal Necklaceas the British spell it, such as rings, pendants, necklaces make ideal fashion accessories for any occasion.

Opal jewelry is now available on the internet, but how do you know it's real, and how can you find something for a gift that is not too expensive.
