HOW OLD IS OPAL?

Opal is a miraculous ancient Gemstone that can range in age from 2 millions years old to 100 million years old. Each Opal is one of a kind and no two are exactly alike.

Opal is a water stone, formed from a solution of silicon dioxide and water. As water runs down through the earth, it picks up silica from sandstone, and carries this silica-rich solution into cracks and voids, caused by natural faults or decomposing fossils. The water evaporates, leaving behind a silica deposit and eventually Opal is formed.

We have had the pleasure to create custom orders for customers with rare Opalized Squid Fossil from the ancient inland sea that is over 60 millions years old to Belemnite Opal over 100 million years old. Precious Opal Ring in general is rare to find, especially Opalized fossils. Opalized fossils have been discovered mainly in Coober Pedy, Australia.

With endless color variation, Opal is one of the worlds most precious ancient Gemstone.
